A common question that is asked is what kind of hair wigs are made of and if it truly makes a big difference for the wearer. All hair is not created equal so here is a breakdown of the different options and what will make you, the customer, happiest in the long run.

Let’s start with hair options. Wigs are generally made from either two different types of hair; processed hair or virgin/unprocessed hair.

What is processed hair?

Processed hair is when the company takes hair and uses chemicals to process the hair to what they need in terms of color and texture. For example, they will bleach hair to lighten it, color hair to darken and use chemicals to make the texture either straight, wavy or curly.

What is unprocessed/virgin hair?

Virgin hair is when the hair is taken and then sorted by color and texture to then create the perfect piece. Meaning that, to create highlights, lighter wefts of hair are sewn in. For a naturally wavy wig, naturally wavy hair is sourced to create the clients dream. Essentially, the hair stays true to its natural state and isn’t altered chemically to accomplish a specific look.

At Beverly Wigs, we use virgin, unprocessed hair for a multitude of reasons.

• The feeling and softness of the hair is unmatched. It is silky, smooth and touchable in a way that will make you never want to take it off.
• Unprocessed hair is lighter, weight wise. The hair isn’t weighed down by chemicals and dye coating each strands, giving the wig an overall lightness and comfort.
• Overall, virgin hair is more hydrated, giving it less of a likelihood to tangle when compared to processed hair and it stays looking fresh, longer.
• Unprocessed hair needs to be washed less when compared to processed hair, so when the style starts to fall, all it needs it a quick touch up versus a whole wash and set.
• When coloring wigs, virgin hair has more of a likelihood of even, universal results.
• Longevity! When you invest in something, you want to love it and for it to last. With frequent use, processed wigs last between 18-24 months while virgin wigs can last more than a few years (this is with proper home care!)

Our focus is on producing the greatest quality wig to ensure the happiest of customers. Using unprocessed hair to accomplish that goal is simply the best!
