My client sits in my chair, we’re excited to get started, and it’s the day they’ve been counting down to. They planned their gown, & now it’s time to pull the look together with glam. Then I hear this…

“My wig is brand new, I don’t know if I like it yet, I didn’t cut it for you”

“I took out the comb and clips to make it more comfortable”

“I didn’t add baby hairs yet”

“I left it long for you”

“It’s new and I’ve never worn it before”

These are basically a form of my worst nightmare, as well as many others.

A NEW WIG

Getting a new wig for an upcoming Simcha is usually a person’s first wish. They want something fresh and new for their look. The problem is, it takes time to figure out your new look.

If you do purchase a new wig, cut into it the way you want it. Don’t leave it raw and long and uncut. Frame your face. Cut those layers for volume. Do that blunt cut midi length. Do the full look. Don’t wait until after. A raw wig won’t embody who you are, flatter the shape of your face, and who your natural self is.

It often causes more stress from clients not recognizing themselves in a fresh color, a new style of lace, or off the face vs bangs.  Stay true to yourself and how you feel comfortable.

WIG GRIPS/COMBS/CLIPS

Don’t remove any clips or combs before the wedding. As a hairstylist, typically need you to have some extra grip the day of a wedding, whether that’s anchoring the comb of the wig to a braid, or clipping in WITH a wig grip underneath. It’s the security we need to ensure your wig isn’t going anywhere. After your event, feel free to remove them if that’s what you want!

HAIR

We don’t want wigs washed fresh…. unless something happens to it and it is really bad. My usual recommendation is to have your wig washed a month before, and wear it a few times. A fresh wig just doesn’t have the same gritty hold for waves, updos, or teasing. We also don’t want the wig raw from the wash, it’s so much additional time to blow out your wig so it looks finished on the day of. We re-blow whatever sections we need to.

LACE

Lace fronts & lace tops; the biggest issues we run into vary from sparse hairline, lifting, lace too long, or damaged lace. It’s recommend to service your lace before an event, need baby hairs added for some lift? Need the lace tightened? Need it cut? Make sure to check in with your Sheitel Macher before the big day with enough time to make adjustments or repairs.

With all these tips in hand, we wish everyone a Mazal Tov on their upcoming events and we are so happy and honored to be a part of your Simchos!
